Public Health Communications During COVID-19

When health information needs to move quickly, clarity becomes as important as accuracy.

The client

DPV Health is one of Victoria’s largest community health organisations, delivering primary healthcare, allied health, disability, mental health and community services across Melbourne’s northern suburbs. The organisation plays a vital role in improving community health through prevention, education and accessible healthcare services.

The challenge:

As Melbourne entered extended COVID-19 lockdowns, access to timely, accurate and evidence-based health information became critical.

DPV Health required a trusted communications partner to rapidly develop public health content that could be published across digital channels and community resources, helping people understand changing health advice, access essential services and make informed decisions during an unprecedented public health emergency.

The challenge was to communicate complex and evolving health information quickly, while maintaining clinical accuracy, accessibility and public confidence.

Our approach:

Affect Media worked closely with DPV Health to develop a range of public health communication resources designed for rapid dissemination across digital and print channels.

Projects included:

  • Writing COVID-19 community information resources
  • Developing women’s health publications during lockdown
  • Producing evidence-based blog articles
  • Translating complex health advice into plain English
  • Supporting health promotion campaigns
  • Developing content around immunisation, influenza and preventative health
  • Creating timely communications aligned with evolving public health advice

Throughout the project, content was developed to balance urgency with accuracy, ensuring information remained clear, accessible and clinically reliable during a rapidly changing public health environment.

The outcome:

DPV Health successfully delivered a series of timely public health communications that supported community access to trusted health information throughout Melbourne’s COVID-19 lockdowns.

From blog articles and health promotion campaigns to women’s health resources, the content helped communicate complex health advice in ways that were accessible, practical and responsive to community needs during a period of significant uncertainty.
