Creating a National Health Information Resource| Epilepsy Foundation | Case Study

Accessible health information builds confidence, supports inclusion and empowers people to make informed decisions.

The client

The Epilepsy Foundation is one of Australia’s leading organisations supporting people living with epilepsy through education, advocacy, health information and community services. Working across healthcare, education and community settings, the Foundation provides trusted resources that help improve understanding, inclusion and quality of life for people living with epilepsy and those who support them.

The challenge:

The Epilepsy Foundation required the redevelopment of a large suite of patient information resources to create a nationally consistent collection of fact sheets, brochures and educational materials.

Existing resources had evolved over time and needed to be consolidated into a clear, accessible and cohesive suite that maintained clinical accuracy while supporting people living with epilepsy, their families, educators, workplaces and the broader community.

The project also involved responding to input from multiple stakeholders across Australian state operations, balancing differing operational requirements while achieving consistency in both content and presentation.

Our approach:

Affect Media led the strategic redevelopment of the Foundation’s patient information resources, managing the project from content strategy through to publication.

Working closely with clinical experts and stakeholders across multiple Australian states, we translated complex medical information into plain English while maintaining clinical accuracy and a compassionate, human-centred tone.

The project included:

  • Project management of the national resource redevelopment
  • Developing a logical content architecture for diverse audiences
  • Translating specialist medical information into accessible language
  • Applying plain English and readability principles
  • Managing stakeholder consultation across multiple jurisdictions
  • Overseeing design, production and quality assurance
  • Delivering a modern, consistent suite of patient resources aligned with the Foundation’s brand.

The outcome:

The project delivered a nationally consistent suite of epilepsy information resources that combined evidence-based health information with accessible, compassionate communication.

Completed on time and within budget, the successful delivery strengthened the Foundation’s health communication resources and resulted in Affect Media being engaged for additional work.

The project demonstrated the value of combining strategic communications, stakeholder engagement and plain language principles to create trusted health information for diverse audiences.

Why it mattered

For people living with epilepsy, access to clear, trustworthy information can influence confidence, participation and quality of life.

By creating nationally consistent resources that balanced clinical accuracy with accessible communication, the project helped ensure people, families, educators and community organisations could access information that was reliable, inclusive and easy to understand.

It reflects Affect Media’s commitment to developing health communications that support understanding, reduce uncertainty and place people at the centre of every conversation.
